Our Favorite Natural Wood Baby Teething Toys and Rattles

When your little one begins exploring the world outside of her right after birth using her five senses - touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight - you can provide her with simple, natural, well-made toys that will inspire but not overwhelm. We love these natural wood baby teethers and rattles because wood is one of the basic materials found in nature.
All of these toys are healthy (no toxic chemicals), pleasant to the touch and shaped in interesting ways for baby to investigate. They are well made and durable so that you can pass them on to your next child. Since each type of wood is unique to the touch, having a few of these uniquely-shaped rattles and teethers around can be fun for your baby and you.
Littlealouette Down Under Boomarang Rattle ($17) is filled with small beans at both ends and finished with certified organic flax seed oil. The toy is handmade in Ohio of locally sourced hardwoods and comes beautifully packaged in a gift box.
Cherry "Cheery" Rattle ($15) is a Camden Rose signature baby toy. It measures about 3 inches in diameter and features a single bead that allows baby to explore textures and sounds in a gentle way. Each rattle is shaped around the shape held by the original piece of wood it was made of. This baby rattle is made from cherry wood with a contrasting birch dowel, covered with all-natural beeswax polish.
The Maple Teethers ($15) made by Maple Landmark Woodcraft in Vermont come in a pair of slightly different shapes. Made of light maple wood, these teehers are just 3/4 inch thick and fit a tiny baby's hand perfectly. They are made of unfinished wood, carefully sanded and smooth to the touch. Maple Landmark Woodcraft also makes beatiful 5-dowel heirloom mini bead rattles for infants.
Natural Wood Crescent Rattle ($8) from Green Sprouts features three wooden rings that spin and rattle on a wooden base. Wood is naturally biodegradable and recyclable.
The Original Maple Teether ($10) from Camden Rose is made from sanded maple wood and left unfinished. Non-toxic food-grade oil (beeswax Polish) can be used to maintain the teether when the wood gets too dry. The toy is recommended for babies 3 months old and up.
